‘Whispering’ gives bats the drop on prey

Quieter echolocation may catch more moths

In a long-running war between bats and moths, at least one bat has gotten the upper wing.

MOTH STALKER A western barbastelle bat gives its echolocation calls more softly than many other aerial hunters, giving it the drop on moths that can hear other bats coming in time to get away.
