Music may be a balm for the soul and, in Shakespeare’s words, the food of love. It may also convey specific meaning much as language does, a new study suggests.
Different classical-music passages facilitate thinking about specific verbal categories, says a team of neuroscientists led by Stefan Koelsch of the Max Planck Institute of Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany.
