In Germany’s Eider River, spiders not only swim with the fishes, they kind of breathe like them, too.
DETACHABLE GILL Eurasian diving bell spiders breathe underwater by staying close to air bubbles that they trap in webbing. These air bells work like “physical gills,” researchers say, drawing oxygen in from the surrounding water.
