PLANETARY WOMB In a new theory, developing planets grow within giant gas clumps that form at a variety of locations within the disk of gas and dust surrounding a young star. When the clumps migrate inwards, the star’s gravity strips away part or all of the gas, exposing the mature planet’s form.
