In the late 1970s, a television series based on the popular comic book The Incredible Hulk became a surprise hit. The comic related the adventures of a scientist who studied the effect of radiation on physical strength. After a freak accident in a nuclear reactor, the researcher would temporarily transform into a gigantic, green monster with incredible strength–the Hulk–whenever he experienced stress.
