Blue light used to treat diabetes

Engineered cells in mice make protein that controls blood sugar

Attention, shoppers: The latest blue light special could help combat diabetes and some genetic diseases.

Blue lights activate specially engineered cells implanted under mice’s skin to make a protein that helps control blood sugar levels. The new technique employs a light-sensitive protein from the retina to manipulate the biochemistry of the cell and might one day be used to help treat diabetes or other metabolic diseases.
